This global organization has grown quickly to 280 staff through new business and a series of strategic mergers and acquisitions. Internal systems for data management and CTMS are being evaluated to determine if they can support future growth and tight time frames when conducting studies. They selected Clinical Force CTMS reduce the time of Study Startup including collection of Regulated Documents and Contract Management during startup.

In addition, they expect to significantly improve the visit report process eliminating current cut and paste tasks with Word processing documents. They also expect to improve the Site payment process by reducing time and cost to pay the sites accurately and timely.

A financial analysis confirmed that they would pay for the system on the first study.

Software as a service (SaaS) revenue within the enterprise application software market is forecast to be larger than $8.5 billion in 2010, this is up 14.1 percent on the previous year
according to Gartner. The research firm forecasts there will be a shift in total SaaS revenue from just over 10 percent of the combined markets in 2009, to more than 16 percent of these combined markets in 2014.

“After a decade of use, adoption of SaaS continues to grow and evolve within the enterprise application markets. As tighter capital budgets demand leaner alternatives, familiarity with the model increases, and interest in platform as a service and cloud computing grows,” said Sharon Mertz, research director at Gartner, in a statement. “Adoption varies between and within markets, and although use is expanding to a wider range of applications and solutions, the most widespread use is still characterized by horizontal applications with common processes, among distributed virtual workforce teams and within Web 2.0 initiatives.”

“The popularity of SaaS has increased significantly within the past five years and initial concerns about security, response time, and service availability have diminished for many organizations as SaaS business and computing models have matured and adoption has become more widespread,” Mertz said.

Two divisions of a multi-national diagnostic and health management company select Clinical Force to complement their clinical tools to keep up with their study workload.

A world leader in the development of rapid diagnostic tests and products has selected Clinical Force CTMS, to be used for all studies worldwide. The CTMS will be integrated with their current EDC partner to improve productivity for all internal studies. The divisions will use the CTMS to standardize on SOPs for the company and will be responsible for all studies conducted in the company, going forward.

The selection focused on a system that could adapt to many short term studies for medical devices, as well as large complicated studies , with the goal of reducing cost and improving efficiency, while managing 80 studies per year. They expect to pay for the system with cost savings from the site payment and visit report process.

The organization will use Clinical Force on two studies in the coming months. The first study will be a pilot to prepare the organization for the use of CTMS on the second, larger study which will have 1000 subjects.

Monitoring will be outsourced to CROs who will integrate their CTMS applications into Clinical Force. Where a CRO does not have a commercial CTMS then they will use Clinical Force to ensure efficient and accurate management of sites in particular Monitoring and Monitoring reports. Study tracking, Regulatory document management, budgets and Payments will be managed by the Sponsor, though the large cost savings will come from managing the Investigator Payment process. It is expected that the solution will be paid for entirely by the cost savings of not outsourcing payments on the Phase III study.

Bio-IT World reported from the fourth Annual Site Solutions Summit that the attendees achieved consensus on six best practices. One of the best practices is for the sites to request monthly payment terms from Sponsors as opposed to the more common quarterly payment term.

A quarterly payment term impacts the already slim profit margins and places burden of risk on sites.

The challenge for many Sponsors and CROs will be the increased effort to manage a monthly payment cycle because they do not have efficient Payments tools or continue to use spreadsheets to manage this process. We believe this to be the greater issue than variable site performance.

Clinical Force customers continue to benefit from an efficient process reducing the effort and cost by up to 90% through using the Payments module. Learn more by clicking here:

The adoption of the CTMS will provide senior management improved visibility of the study whilst at the same time providing a tool that CRAs will use that will reduce effort and remove mundane tasks. The CRAs are excited about the new tool as it will enable them to focus on the high value tasks which will mean an improved working environment.

Clinical Force is expecting to integrate the CTMS to the eCRO’s intelligent Data Acquisition and Management system at a later date. This system enables multiple types of data capture (including paper and eDC). Integration to other systems will great improve visibility and also reduce the effort in running clinical Trials.

The solution will be implemented within 4 weeks and will pay for itself within 4 months of use on the first study.
