Offline Client
Clinical Trials are mostly conducted across multiple locations. In the case of monitors, these staff members also travel to the office (or home office) and to various sites in the study.
The offline client provides a highly secure yet easy to use application to ensure that mobile study staff are always able to do their work, whether connected to the internet or not. Benefits of the offline client are therefore:
- No loss of productivity while traveling
- Rapid updating of the study in the CTMS (when the offline user synchronizes)
- Access to all relevant information during monitoring activities
How does this work?
The offline client user installs a compact program on the user laptop and does an initial “full” data synchronization. This provides the user with a local CTMS that looks and feels exactly the same as the online CTMS.
Before leaving the office, the user synchronizes the offline client with the online CTMS. This means that when at the site, they have the latest study information to hand. So, they can not only create a monitoring visit report (trip report) while on site, the can actually update their offline client with the latest subject and site information, including subject visits, CRFs, SAEs and deviations.
When next connected to the internet, they can synchronize to the CTMS, so that the entire study team has the latest information from that site.
Offline Client Details
The offline version of the CTMS looks and works exactly the same as the online version, so no training or retraining is necessary for study staff.
The offline client and the local database on the PC are encrypted so that no clinical trial information is ever at risk on the PC. The offline client synchronization works according to the user security privileges, so the user will therefore have access to the same data offline as they do online.
Synchronization between the offline client and CTMS includes conflict handling to cope with simultaneous changes to the same data in both environments.
Installation of the client is distributed on CD or via download. The installation is automated and installs all of the relevant software and systems to run the application, the installation files can be. Further updates to the application are delivered automatically via synchronization.
In summary, the offline client is the ideal tool to boost team productivity and ensure near real time access to clinical trial information across distributed locations.
